    Occasional Z axis over-run

I have a Digirout DR 1500. about a year old. It uses stepper motors and Geko Drives. Ocassionaly (rarely) the z axis overruns during a program. Instead of going to the programmed depth it goes all the way to the Limit switch. I get no help from the manufacturer. Does anyone know if the problem is with the Geko drive or ? Im runing CNC Pro Controller from Yeager Automation.
    Thanks in advance,

Maybe the Z axis is heavy enough to were the motor can't slow it down to hold it. Try to increase the accel decel of the Z motor. Or put a spring to help the motor.

    Z axis over-run

Thanks Dennis, I'll give the spring a try. I really don't think that is the problem though. It happens only very rarely, the whole z axis assembly weighs less than 10 lbs. It only rapids at 250 in per minute and it has an 8 thread (.125" pitch) leadscrew.

Since it has a lead screw then it's not the motor tuning. Maybe a loose wire on the Z drive.
Yeager Automation is no more that doesn't help either. If the problem gets very bad you can always switch to Mach3 this way you will have a lot more help.

What model of Geckos does it run?
