Need advise on adding a laser for engraving to existing cnc machine

    Hi all.

Im currently finishing my vertical machine and have been thinking about adding a laser for engraving, mostly aluminium.

I was inspired by someone who simply added a laser on the side of his spindle.

Question far a laser noob is:
What parts do I need? (PSU, Laser, software?)
What power is sufficiant for ”deep” engraving. About 0.5mm into aluminium?
Will it work using my existing setup with Mach3?

    Thankful for any insights.

Pictures of first quick test of machine.

To engrave aluminum you need a fiber laser, in the kW power range I think. I think used models are $10k+

Fiber laser can do the engraving. For the power,it also depends the size of your design file.If you file is complicated, then the speed will be slow.If the file you want to engrave is simple, then it will be faster. The speed lower when the working area larger. We have some fiber laser machines in our factory and can test it for you.
