Can someone explain what this alarm is? I have a Fanuc Wire EDM machine with a Fanuc 18I-W control. The alarm 440 message says "A regenerative discharge circuit alarm condition has occurred".

I am down and of course it is Saturday when the service dept. is closed.

The way I read this is that either a axis regen voltage was exceeded, fast deceleration etc, which means it is re-settable.
However If the alarm is on constantly then the discharge unit has either an overheat or a permanent failure. I would think.
Does it show an axis concerning the fault?

It shows the X axis. When I look at the alarm page it list all the axis's.

I looked at the power supply module and it has a #8 in the alarm window which says it is an excessive regeneration alarm.

If it is the X axis the is triggering the alarm could it be something as simple as a ball screw needing grease causing friction. It only does it when burning. The approach feed won't trigger it and moving the machine in manual mode doesn't either. I haven't tried a 2 axis cut to see if it makes any difference. Right now i am cutting a 4 axis shape that I have done before.

I forgot to mention, you can't clear the alarm with the reset button but if you shut the machine off and restart it you comes back normal. You can burn for a few minutes before the alarm triggers. It does not take the same amount of time either. The first time it did it was after only a minute and once after 10 minutes.

Normally the Regen unit comes into play when doing High accel/decel moves repeatedly.
Which could be happening but over a very small movement.
The high decel produces a high regen voltage that has to be dissipated, if it is not (regen unit failure) you probabally get this alarm.
Normally binding causes over heat or over current alarm.
Do you have Alpha drives?

Alpha Drives?? The machine is Fanuc 1IA machine with an 18I-W control.

The power supply and amplifier modules model numbers start with an A.

The machine is traveling at only .050 per minute. I just did a 2 axis cut with no problems. It was a straight cut with only one axis moving.

Right now I'm back cutting the four axis part just fine but expect it to alarm out at any time.

Hi

I m suleman khosa and have one problem in our FANUC module of CNC lathe Takisawa TC-200(Japan).

It have one power supply module A06B-6110-H015. Maker of part is FANUC. When i ON the machine then its shows alarm of radiator fan failaure at screen and at power supply module seven segment display shows "A" at screen. I checked in manual its say that connector or any thing loose but there is not any type of that reason is diagnosed. please help me in that matter.

I know I am digging up an old thread, but I had the same 440 fault.

It turned out to be a loose wire crimp on the CXA20 plug. Soldered the wires and error gone. Took 2 weeks to find it.
