    Just another vise review

    Hello,

Just received a new 4" size machine vise.

It is a Kurt lock-down clone made in Taiwan and sold under the brand Knuth.

    Model number is PMZ100:

At 400 EUR shipped is not the cheapest, but it is half the price of a 100mm Gerardi.

The build quality is very good. Ground surfaces on all sides. After cleaning and oiling everything moves smooth.

First impression is very good, but I must still check the perpendicularity and parallelism of all surfaces.

BTW, can anybody give some info about the Knuth brand?

    Re: Just another vise review

Made more progress with the vise.

Bolted on the table and measured how parallel the ways are to the table. Result: 5 micron difference (0.0002") over 100mm distance.

When fully tightened both jaws lift 15 microns (~0.0005"). But the lift is identical on both jaws, therefore should not be a problem.

All in all I am very happy with the vise. Build quality is very good and for hobby use is perfect.

Initially I wanted a 100mm Gerardi which clearly would have been better, but at almost half the price I decided for the Knuth and will invest the difference in tooling.
