what are the normal wires to use to hook the stepper driver to the breakout board i am using 16ga wire for my 120 volt hook up but since the voltage has drop with the connection between stepper and board can i use a 22ga wire

22 AWG wire is rated for 3amps, If referring to the control signal to the stepper drive itself, that should be a lot less than 3amps.
