Is this a good price on a plasma cam.

It is a used plasma cam with a Thermel Dynamics cutmaster 51. It was bought 3 to 4 years ago. They used it for 1 to 1 1/2 years and how it is in storage.

I can get it for 3,500.00...

    Is this a good deal.....

    Thanks

What's the cutmaster worth, and how many consumables are included?
On all equipment there are 2 levers...
    Lever "A", and Lever F'in "B"

The cutmaster is 1,300.00 new. I do not know if it has any consumables with it.

I do not see what this has to do with the question that I ask.

Probably the freight cost to your location so you can have an idea of the overall cost of the purchase...

You need to check and see if the software comes with it and if the company has the right to sell or give it away. I think there may be a transfer fee on the software that needs to be figured in the price. No other software can be used to the machine.

A new PlasmaCam cost $8000 without a plasma cutter, couldn't you use Mach3 and not worry about transferring the other software?
    $3,500 sounds like a deal.

Yes, but then you are left with the daunting task of buying and installing
    1. New servos
    2. New servo drivers
    3. Power supply
    4. BOB
    5. Mach3
    6. Sheetcam (or equivalent CAM program)
    7. Torch height controller
Because PlasmaCam is all proprietary components, meaning there is not much chance for you to just "plug in" Mach.
You would basically be buying a bunch of angle steel bolted together for 3500 bucks.

If you buy it as-is, then you are still left with the software transfer fees and perhaps finding out WHY it was left in storage for so long.
If you wind up having to replace some of the hardware, then you could easily wind up spending the same amount you would have to purchase a brand new machine elsewhere.
    Just my opinion, of course.

Why would he have to buy new servos?
I'm not an expert I'm just learning.

Because the PlasmaCam electronics and hardware are all proprietary, meaning they are designed to work with PlasmaCam's software/hardware, and ONLY PlasmaCam, nothing else.
There might be a way to make the motors that are already there work with different drivers, but I haven't heard of anyone doing it as of yet.

In the end, even at the 3500 price, you could build a new machine yourself.

You have piqued my interest, Tom.
Might I ask what you have up your sleeve?

    Hello,
My work here just got a plasmaCam loaned to us. Its been in a BAD(rusting) storage of some sort.We have only had it about 5 days now.I kept getting a motor short problem.Switched axis wires and came to X axis, took of encoder cap and it smells burnt.Took apart servo and shows windings next to shaft burnt. Is there anyway of finding out what kind of servo they use? And use MACH 3 to interface with the plasmaCam control?Or to get an "off the Shelf" motor to use with the plasmaCam?
