Need Help with old Manlight ML20-PL-R-OEM-LP Laser

I have a laser marking machine with 10 year old Manlight ML20-PL-R-OEM-LP Module and am using Raylase Weldmark 2.0 software. I am mostly marking Carbide, HSS and Steel. Machine works really well.

However, I have been given a couple of Brass and Copper jobs and cant seem to get it to work right. Any marking that goes on the part if it even marks at all wipes rights off and the laser isn't aggressive at all no matter what I do setting wise. The setting we have for our materials were given to us when we purchased the machine and I do not really know much about the settings of this machine.

I have attached a picture of our carbide settings. What should I be changing to mark copper and brass

Any help with this matter would greatly be appreciated

    Thanx

Re: Need Help with old Manlight ML20-PL-R-OEM-LP Laser

Ok seeing that nobody seems to know anything about this particular laser, I want to pick everybodys brain.

I am trying to laser etch part numbers on copper and brass parts. As of right now it either doesn't leave any markings at all or its so light you can wipe it off by hand.

Should I be marking this as a vector or dot? If I use dot what should I have for dot spacing, dot display size and Pulse On and Off times?

Right now I am using vector with Power @ 100, Frequency @50 and Mark Speed @ 3.6

Ive tried faster and slower speeds but it has virtually made no difference.

Any help would greatly be appreciated

    Chris

Is this a co2 laser? you need a paste that the laser embeds into the metal. I believe it is called ceramark. metal absorbs co2 laser

Metal, specially copper REFLECTS 10.6nm IR light (good CO2 laser mirrors are made of polished copper).
