My Controller Not Working...help Me Pls

I have purchazed FET-3 dynamo controller card from stepperworld.com but it is not working although i checked all cabling many times. only x-axis motor jitters wheras there is no response from Y and Z axis.
I have read through the manual many times but i have not found any discrepancy in my cabling. I checked all circuit + components through voltage meter and ohmmeter but all found okay.
currently in following pictures i just connected z-axis drive with Hi-torque jumper position. please tell me what i m doing wrong.
    Best regards.

    Power Supply Voltage

I can’t make out all of the wiring. I looks like you are using the power resistor. If so, I think the motor power supply should be 12v (Yellow-Black). The controller board will still use 5v (Red-Black).

    Thank U GER:

Okay.. please tell me if i not use power resistor then the connections shown in pictures, leaving out of power resistor, is right.

I will try 12V supply only to motor with power resistor, Is it safe for the motors/controller board. (I have only one controller board :-( )

    Best Regards

I have the same motor. You must use a resistor to limit the current to 3 amps, or you will burn out the motor.

    Smile Further information

I am using power resistors of 50watt. and currently supplying +5V both to controller and stepper motor as per instruction manual. Also i m using Pentium-4 power supply.
I think the stepper safe voltage limit is 2.7Volts. Guide me. and Help me.

    Different Motor

The motors I received from Stepperworld where 6v. If the instructions he sent with your motors state the resistor needs to be used with 5v, ignore my last post. How many wires are coming out of the motor?

    Black Wire

I think I just found the black wire in the picture. I think it is going to the power resistor. Let me make sure I can see this correctly.

    Going to the power resistor:
    Red-Yellow-Black-Orange

    Controller (Right to Left)
    Blue-Green-Brown-White-(Empty)-Wire from resistor

    Is this correct?

Yes GER u have correctly defined the wiring. The black wire is from power resistor. All other are the same as u mentioned.

Have you contacted stepperworld for support?

    Yes.. Mr. pminmo THE Great
I contacted stepperworld. they advised some steps that i already taken except one to check the circuit on some other PC. Today i check the circuit on the PC of my freind but with same results.
Again i checked on my computer but at this time the motor run on WAVE DRIVE MODE only.

All three axis run on WAVE DRIVE mode only. They all fail to run on HI TORQUE and Half step

What software are you using? This sounds like a software setup problem.

    Dear Pminmo,
I am using KCAM4. What steps i take in the software setting to run it in Hi-torque mode.

After looking over your stuff a little more, it's not software related. You may have one of the phases backwards. Although I would have thought it would mis-step in wavedrive mode. High torque, is simply 2 phase full step I believe since the board is based on the 5804 chip. Are you using two resistors per motor? If not you need to be, one resistor will go to the red-yellow pair the other to the black-orange pair. The other side of the resistors to the positive of the supply. Phase Green on one phase is the same polarity as white is on the other. So depending on how the board has phases marked, make sure they are phased corectly. Resistors should be figured as follows:

Motor resistance per phase is .92 ohms. So power supply voltage/ 3 equals total resistance value. So for a 12V supply you want a total of 4 ohms to get 3A. Since the motor is .92 you need a 3.1 ohm resistor at 30 watts.

I don't know how the board is labeled for phases, but hopefully the picture will help

    Dear Pminmo The Great,
Following are the diagrams which were provided in instruction manuals. and the same i followed.
This may help u understanding what i m doing.
    Best Regards

In WAVE DRIVE i started motor on 5IPM ramp. It goes 14IPM max. then after it motor missing steps.

    AlL I've Got

As far as I know everything looks correct.

I do not know if it matters, but in my documentation it makes a distinction between coil A and coil B. Using this documentation (http://www.kelinginc.net/KL23H276-30-8B.pdf) to distinguish between coil a and B. I might try changing the wiring to:

Controller (Right to Left in picture)
    Brown-White-Blue-Green-(Empty)-Wire from resistor

That is all I can see.

Looks like th supply must be brought through the board, so the PS+ is the connection shown in the diagram from stepperworld. If you want to run wave drive you only need one resistor. If you want to have full power on the other modes you need two resistors. You can use one resistor, but you will be limiting your current. I did goof on the resistor computation in that I didn't include a voltage drop for the drivers. But I don't know what kind of driver is on the board, bipolar or fet.

You won't get a lot of high speed performance with a 12V supply. Your missing steps is probably normal mechanical resonance.
