Hi Folks,
Our Fanuc alpha i 8/20000 spindle motor (A06B-1497-B145) (superceeded by A06B-1497-B901) about 10 years old, is electrically 100% ok but has developed lots of play at the spindle coupling end and we would like to strip it and replace the bearings.
Fanuc and the machine tool co. will happlily do us a service exchange motor, but this is a fixed cost of mega bucks.

We wouldn't normally be too worried about carrying this out ourselves, but on doing some digging online there seems to be lots of mentions of Fanuc using custom bearings, which Fanuc don't sell and can't be readily crossed referenced from a bearing supplier.

Obviously the normal plan would be change like-for-like with premium high speed quality units, but my read up of custom bearings has casted doubt on if this is practically possible.
Would like to be prepared prior to getting spanners out and stripping motor

Has anyone had any experiences of changing these bearings out or where to get them?

Cheers
