Guys, what is the file extension for a Centurion 6 (floppy drive)?

I'm trying to write some programs via CAM software. So far, the mill doesn't recognize that a program is on the floppy. The floppy was formatted prior to using it.

P.S. Please tell me any other advice that you think I'll need to get the mill to read files.

There is NO file extension.... just O1234. or P1234. (for conversational progs).
You can enable the parameter "Full DOS File Names" and it will read ANY FILE on the disk, but be careful not to try and read anything other than a gcode file in ASCII format or it can lock up the control or scramble parameter(s). In other words, don't try to read an .exe or .jpg file.

How do I save a file with no extension?

I opened the .txt file in Notepad, then tried to save it with no extension. I think that it was saved as a .txt file.

The controller didn't recognize the .ncc file either.


Maybe I should switch to "Full DOS File Names".

Just rename it as O#### without an extention. You will get a warning about changing file types, but ignore that.

If this is the first run posting from your cam package, verify it on the control, then run it dry without cutting tools to be sure it runs as expected.

Check you folder options on your pc. Make sure they show hidden files so you can rename them without ext.

You don't even need an o (oh) in front of the prog number. My controls are switched to use full dos file names. I use floppy's with only programs for the machines. The only tome you need an o (oh) is for calling sub programs.

You are forcing the .txt extension in notepad because you didn't change "File Type" in the flip out pane to "*.* All Files", you've left it as File Type *.txt

Check Your Cam Software Too See If You Can Change How It Is Saved. That's What I Did. Just Save It With The Period And No Extension. Hope This Helps.

Guys, thanks for your help so far.

My mill still doesn't recognize the files on the floppy. I can change the 'Save As File Type' to all files, but it wtill writes a text file. I don't have an option for ASCII encoding.

When I look at the program from Explorer, it is still a text document.

Woohoo! It now reads the programs on the floppy!

I had made many changes, but had not added the period at the end of the file name.
