Hello, I wold like to show off the current progress on a machine I started while I was in trade school . The basis for the machine was a compact design with rigid components without spending lot of money . I also Took inspiration from the machines built by This old Tony and Wade'O design.
The frame it is made up of 2"x 2" 0.250" wall square tube and the X-axis uses 3"x 5" 0.375 wall rectangle ,all the rails are 20mm , the ballscrews for the X and Y-axis are 20mm SFU2010 .
I plan on machining aluminum and some steel so I chose a 2.5Kw , 24k rpm spindle and Nema 23 425 Oz.in for the stepper motors .
The travel for the machine is 13.5" X-axis ,9.5" on the Y and 6.1" for the Z .
If anyone has any tips or insight please let me know .
I will keep posting picture updates.
