Question 3D printed parts in build?

Has anyone used 3d printed parts to convert there mill?

Am in the middle of converting an Sieg X3 and have a 3d printer. I was wondering if anyone have used 3d printed parts like belt pullys, holders for the steppers etc. Also could i 3d print my stepper holders and then mill some in steel to replace the 3d printed ones?

    Thanks for all advice

Yes to all of the above. Not sure why you would print parts, then mill steel parts? Peter

Allright! I just have my doubts if the plastic is strong enough to hold over time. What plastic did you print in, and is there anything to be continuous about?

You could definitely print parts with the correct shape/dimensions but you are right in questioning how long they would last.
I think it is a legitimate strategy to print parts for a temporary conversion, which would allow you to use the temporarily CNC'd machine to make parts for a permanent conversion. I would have done that had I had a printer. It is also a good way prototype parts if you need to.

Some low stress, static parts like wire clips etc. can be printed and used long term provided you choose a material that is resistant to whatever coolants and lubes you use. I'd be curious about what those materials ar though.

CNC Cookbook has an article about using 3D printed parts as part of a CNC conversion.

Hossmachine had several videos on YouTube where he printed up temporary stepper motor mounts for a Grizzly G0704.
