    OKUMA LC-50 with OSP-5000L-G

    Hi,
I'm maintenance engineer and I have OKUMA LC-50 with OSP-5000L-G Controller.

Pls advise how to change Language from Japanes to English.I found that this machine no have backup diskett equipped.

I heard that it needs to use English Diskette version. The problem is Okuma does not support for this machine. It was import from Japan.

    Regards,
    Dew

You should be able to contact your local Okuma dealer and get the needed software for the language change even on the older controls. The disks that came with the machine have labels like ENG.MSG for English message files. Yours probably has JP.MSG files. Since the control has literally 10000+ alarms, message and labels that are used by the system, it is no small task and takes a lot of memory that wasn't on the older machines, so multiple languages were not stored on the machine.
Unfortunately they will probably charge $2500+ for the new software, so if you are inclined to get it, you may want to order some options for your machine such as Cycle Time reduction function, Tool life management, etc at the same time so that you can get them combined and save a bunch of money. The CTR will pay for itself and the upgrade easily if it is added when you do not have it.

Take a look at your Management Data Card in the back of the machine for other ideas on what you may want to upgrade. Many are software only so the upgrade is easy.

The LC-50 is an awesome rock crusher of a machine and the 5000L-G is one of my favorite controls due to its reliability and capability (and lack of modern day interlocks). It was way ahead of it's time and others still haven't caught up with that control from 30 years ago.

I cut my teeth on the 5000 green screen which was it's predecessor ;-) and I'd take your 5000L-G over their current OSP 300 any day of the week due to it's simplistic interface and ease of use. True I can't order a pizza with it, but do you really want to do that from your machine? Just sayin!

    Best regards,
Experience is what you get just after you needed it.
