N00b seeks fantasy solution to power a cheap 220VAC 1.5KW spindle from 120VAC outlet

    Hey Guys,

I'm still trying to find a solution to run a 240VAC 1.5 KW spindle from a 120VAC Outlet.

The circuit in the room where my CNC router is located has a 120VAC outlet with a 20 AMP breaker.

Can I step up 120VAC to 220VAC, then run the 220V VFD to power a 220V 1500 Watt Spindle?

This is the step up transformer I was eyeballing:

    Thanks,

    Billy

2000w Heavy duty step up / down voltage converter
The only difference is about Input volt (Input 100v/110v/220v/230v Input 110v/200v/220v/240v).
Pleas do not worry (Billy-> how reassuring),it will not infect the use of the transformer.24 hours 7 hours working time.
It comes with 3 Mode Outputs to meet your needs, 5 V USB port / 110 V USA output socket / 220 V universal output socket.
    Input Voltage Selection >>>
transformer with voltage selector on the back, plug in 110V, step-up voltage from 110-120 volt to 220-240 volt.
    Plug in 220V or 230V, step-down voltage 220 - 240 volt to 110 - 120 volt
Inductive loads usually have 2.5-7 times of their rated power, so before using it please ensure the device is an Inductive load or a Resistive load.
For example, a refrigerator that consumes 150 watts in normal operation, but its starting power can be Up to 1000 watts or more,
In addition, Hair dryer/coffee machine/sweeper/cooking machine need to choose 2-3 times more converter
    Over Current Protection >>>
Input mini circuit breaker is installed on the back. The circuit breaker will trip if over currents or short circuits occur, just reset it, the transformer will work again.
CE Certification & After Service (Billy -> CE? Chinese Export you mean????)
    1 years long service life.
If you receive a low quality converter transformer or broken volt transformer (Billy-> What a thing to say )
or don't know how to choose a correct transformer, please contact the seller by email [email protected] at the first time.
We will respond for any problem of the products within 24 hours.

Any local Electrical supplier should have a range of power transformers, 120/230/120 etc.
You would just need to re-reference the earth ground to one side of the secondary and this would then be the neutral conductor.
Also set up the correct fusing on the secondary side, (one conductor if setting up the neutral as previous).

No a problem if you buy the right VFD Drive 120v input 220v output 120v 20A you can just scrap by with that but it is the minimum for a 1.5Kw spindle

If you get one of these make sure you get the right model number

First question: is this 220 v single or 3 phase. if 3 phase, you need vfd

if single phase: you can use a transformer but limited to 10 amps.

Look up "quick 220 systems" website. $215. This will get you 15 amp of 220v if you have another leg nearby. You can also homebrew this if you understand what you are doing. You tube vid s will explain. two extension cords and an outlet. 20 amp version is $245 Tormach sells these for apartment dwellers.......
