Hello everyone!
Wondering if some could tell me if I would have any trouble using my 2.2KW VFD with a 1.5KW Spindle.

Hello everyone!

Thanks a lot! So do i just lower the amps on the VFD to 6 amp ? 6 x 220V = 1320 watt
No you have to use the motor spec's, so the Parameters would be set to suit the spindle motor spec's and this is important or you will damage the VFD Drive or the spindle, this can happen no matter what the VFD Drive size is incorrect Parameter settings are the cause of most failures
Mactec54
How does one learn about that ? these are the specs for the spindle
Power: 1.5 KW,
Voltage: 220V~250V,
Frequency: 400 Hz
I know how to set the max hz to 400 on the VFD and its a 220V VFD. Im assuming i have to lower the amps but i am new to all this
Hello.
I agree with mactec54, a misconfigured drive is a good source of problems.
I also think you should check for the fuses and/or thermal breakers and have them selected accordingly. They are your last line of defense should a problem arise.
As the drive is capable to deliver higher current than your motor requires imagine a situation where the motor gets stalled. The only way for the drive to know is by the current increase. Yet if misconfigured it may try to deliver it effectively burning the motor and probably itself.
Note: the previous assumption may not be correct if there is some sort of feedback from the motor to the drive. However I always prefer to be safe than sorry.
I hope this helps.
Regards.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me with this
Hey Mac, just had a quick question. I did all your settings seems to be working, the only thing is i cant push past 275HZ. I read that i want to hit about 330hz for plywood so im wondering if something in your settings has capped the Hz cause my spindle shouldn't be pushed past 275 for safety
Thanks again man
