I just received a "brand new" R8 collet for some mill-turning on my 1100. It actually looks very used to me for several reasons. I'm not quite sure about one of these issues as the only R8 collets I've ever seen or used are the Tormach TTS collets. It appears to have "reliefs" ground either side of the slots along the taper. On my Tormach TTS collets I've see wear patterns in this area so I suspected someone may have just filed off these worn surfaces with perhaps a diamond pad. They don't look to have been ground well. On the other hand I could imagine this might actually be a useful feature. Has anyone ever seen a NEW collet ground this way?

It's easy to see but difficult to photograph. The light reflections either side of the slot show these relieved areas.
