Z compensation for reground spindle with a single parameter

A spindle has been reground. We know the exact amount of Z difference between tool length in old and new (regound) spindle. However we don't want to re-measure every tool in magazine nor do we want to re-calibrate tool length setter. We just want to adjust a single parameter that would compensate for the difference of Z.

What is the name of this parameter?

Re: Z compensation for reground spindle with a single parameter

I have done this on 16 through 30i Horizontals not verticals
    1 Zero all axis
2 Move Z the amount you know it is off I assume it is a negative value.
    3 Enter PWE
4 Go to system variable 1815 the header you want is APZ (bit 4)
5 move the courser to the 3rd row down it should be marked on the left Z
you should be on 1815, bit 4 (APZ), row Z
6 Change the value from 1 to 0, you will get an alarm that says you have to shut the machine power off, but I turn the bit back to 1 first and on some machines this prevents the axis from drifting slightly in the .0001" values. your Z should now be set to zero at that location.
7 Turn off PWE, Power down and back up again, zero the machine and verify with the original tool you used to make sure it is moved correctly.
I have used this on 2 different machine manufacturers one that drifts slightly but is acceptable (you can always repeat until you are satisfied) the other nails it if you turn 1815 APZ back to 1 before powering down..
