    program sent through rs232/ corrupt line numbers ?

    Hi guys,

    the problem is on a Haas VF7 (2004 i believe)

    im having an issue that came up a few months ago, whenever i send a program through rs232 (using RemoDNC or Cimcoedit)
    it completes the send successfully however random lines become corrupted and are encased in () with a ? at the end.
    i get the "Unknown Code" alarm mid transfer.

    never had this happen before, and it seems to be more common now than when it started.
    also, its never the same lines that get corrupted, seems to be random

    someone from Haas said it could be the cable had become broken at some point, so i soldered up a fresh one
    with new connectors. tested the cable on a diff machine and it works fine, on my Haas VF7 however it does not.

    section of code eg..

    N5630 X3.2763 Z13.8901;
    N5640 X-1.8 Y-4.0763;
    (2650Y-4.0269Z13.8788?)
    N5660 X3.2269 Y1.;
    N5670 X3.1774 Z13.8676;

    thanks for you help guys.

    Check if your control supports parity check. It's a special feature for errors detection.
    Check baud rate settings. 9600 and arround should work as a standard. If there is 115200, it could be too high.
    What is the length of the serial cable? Is the computer grounded?

    i haven't played with parity check but i will have a look.

    i stick to 9600 baud on all machines since the length of the cables is roughly 20ft sometimes a bit longer.

    thanks for the reply, appreciate it

    232 can get fussy - there are a number of testers both soft and hard ware provisioned.

    I've seen so many different issues that it's hard to say w/o just trying a lot of elimination and substitution.
    rs232 uses +12/-12 on the haas I believe. Power look ok? I know on my older haas, they '*derive' the -12V on the serial chip so it's hard to say on that (-) supply line. Mabe used, maybe not.
    *This means w/ a few components and an IC, they make the -12Vdc used for 232 inside the chip more or less.

    Anyway, try a 4ft cable. yeah.. I know, but unplug and haul the PC or lappy on out there and try it.
    Take your original 20ft, Remove 4ft- Try the 20 while your PC is next to the Haas.
    Try a different PC to send?
    Knock the baud down to 4800, then 2400... any diff?
    inspect inside the haas where the DB connector is. any goo and nastiness?

    Just some basic thoughts I'd be checking/trying w/o too much fuss.
