Lost license on 6040 and PlanetCNC control

My CNC was working well, until today. I messed up on a few lines of Gcode and failed to set the Z axis to zero and when I clicked play, the spindle plunged down jamming into the jig I had holding my work. Before I could hit the E stop, the fuse popped. I replaced the fuse and I couldn't reconnect the laptop to the controller. I swapped USB cables and still no dice. I tried restarting everything, that didn't work either. I dug a little deeper and it looks like my license isn't valid. I tried to reactivate the software with the controller and it's giving me an error. What am I missing? I'm sure it's something simple and I'll kick myself. But I need this machine running ASAP

    Thanks.

Controller should work (with limitations) even without license.

It doesn't connect at all. I tried a different cable with the same results, even tried a different laptop. Is it possible the controller is shot? If so, I'll order a new one right away. I don't think I've had this for a year. I'll have to verify which one I need. When I get a chance I'll take a picture and post it.
