    Help with Backlash

I have a 1992 Hurco BMC 20LR with approx .0014 backlash in x axis and in one direction in y axis.
Where do I start to solve this issue? Have many tight tolerance holes to do and I cannot hold them.

    Re: Help with Backlash

Here are two handouts to help diagnose ball screw and thrust bearing issues.
There are variations of machines and the handouts may not cover all of them.
Caution: Always be aware of the vertical axis which can be very heavy and must be blocked
up first with the proper tools and techniques before disconnecting the ball screws or couplings.
Counter balances are a concern and can fail as well.
Use a skilled technician familiar with your product; if you are not sure about any of this.
