Assembled with 30 weight oil

I have already made a few test barrels on the lathe; this is the first real tool for the lathe made by the lathe

took a test cut across a 1/4" BRASS ROD
I could not believe my eyes when I read the vernier; "NO" taper at all 0.247" dia across the lenght of 95mm; I'm flabbergasted I really did not expect that; a bit of tweeking yes; but not dead on first try

The center sounded very quiet and had no residual vibrations to add to the test cut; with a cut of only 0.0015" at 1700 rpm I expected a bit of vibration
I'm still not happy with holding it so far out in a drill chuck (but it is a very good chuck) but hey if it works what the h*ll

You have come a long way in a short period of time, recall you mentioning that "May CNC it one day" has not been all that long ago.

Yes I posted that thread 15th Feb; it's come along very well; and with many thanks to the members here; the reading was well worth it and very helpfull
I just hope the big Mill goes as well; I'll be updating the drawing soon with the parts off eBay

Made this today; it's close but not up to the standards I'm setting myself for the model barrels; this is a replacement barrel (or will be once I get it right) for the 1/200th scale Yamato model by Nachimo; the plastic items are garbage and people want the look of the real thing; I also want to use bronze not brass as above

The smaller gun on the spru are 1/350th Yamato by Tamiya; any keen eyed guy can see just how far off they are
