    Yet another Pendant

    I'm doing a grizzly lathe conversion, and I want to put the custom jog / shuttle into the area of the lathe where the controls where previously. Making a bit of progress on the proof of concept. Currently leveraging the work that was done on the PathPilot side for the NinjaPendant until I get a chance to rewrite all of that.

    Pendant looks promising. On the conversion subject (hope you don't mind the question), are there plans or conversion kits available for the griz lathe? I have a 9 inch that is a prime candidate but would prefer a bolt on kit or plans to make it happen. Yes, getting lazy in my 70 year old age. Many thanks.

    Bill,

    I assume you are talking about a kit to add ballscrews and steppers to the grizzly? I got a kit for my grizzly g0602 off of ebay. There are a few on there. Not sure if there is one for your specific lathe.

    I have a recommendation. Double think trying to keep your manual lathe capability.

    I say this because I found that in doing my conversion HERE there are some factors that are working against you. Mounting MPG's on the sadle where the wheels used to be keeps you standing in front of the machine where you no longer want to be. When I used my manual lathe the chips weren't too much of a problem. Yes, they flew everywhere and burned me sometimes, but the lathe in CNC mode moves so much faster and the chips fly way more. You will need a shield on your lathe to keep the shop clean and if you have the MPG's on the sadle the shielding is more difficult to fabricate. Also, with conversational and CAM software, you will probably never use the lathe in a manual way again. I placed 2 MPG's in the location where the gear selectors were and this has worked out well. However I also have a pendant that works just as well. The only times I use the MPG's is for job and tool setup. After that, the cover is closed and the start button is pressed.

    I have a ton more work done. I got all of the buttons working on a prototype board and its calling the NinjaPendant code on the PathPilot side. The thumbstick is an amazing addition!

    I've built this model in Fusion 360 for the prototype to 3d print a case. Look familiar?

    Running into a few roadblocks trying to send data to the Ninjapendant code on the pathpilot side.

    If there is anyone that has a NinjaPendant that could give me a hand that would be awesome. What I need is someone to plug the ninjapendant into their PC, run a serial monitoring app (I can show you which one), and tell me what the ninjapendent is sending.

    Scott;
    Are you going to market these??? I'm still using the stock tormach unit on my Torus Pro with pathpilot. If you decide to market, put me down for one!
    Many Thanks.

    Hey Bill,

    Not sure yet. Still working on the prototype. Will depend on if I can find quality components. The ones I'm using now are pretty cheap. Need to find ones that will be reliable.

    Making great progress on the pendant. Wanted to show some progress here is a quick video to show some of the functionality. I think its in a good spot for me to start using it daily to see what things I want to change.
