    Linear Bearing question

    Hi -
I have 1" round cold rolled steel rod. Would this be the correct bearing to use with it?

This one looks nicer but more expensive. WOW!@ What a price tag.

for the price of the nice looking ones you could get the whole system here http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/LM/Kit7429. On another note are you sure that you 1 inch cold rolled steel is actually 1 inch if it is it should work.

The Rod needs to be hard or the bearings will dig into the surface, from the options the vxb kit would be the best choice, I use them myself.

Thanks for the replies - I already have the 1" round cold rolled steel rods. Just need a couple of sets of bearings. Trying to make as affordable as possible.

The ones on VBX are 20mm not 1". Can't find ones on VBX that are 1".

    Thanks -

If you use ball bearings on the CRS, it'll be ruined in a very short time, as the previous poster mentioned.

Like Ger said, you can not use linear bearings on cold rolled steel.
If you really want to use the CRS, you will have to come up with a skate bearing or v groove bearing type of set-up.
The other, probably best, option is VXB.

For some cheaper hardened shafting find a place that sells induction hardened shafting, it comes plain ground and chromed. When I phoned Team Tube I could get 3/4" hardened/chromed for close to the same price as 19mm hardened shaft from vbx. This stuff is normally used for hydralic cylinder rods.
