    Tachometer?

Is there a way to add tachometer feedback to a 320 drive?

I'd be interested in doing this, even if its a bit "hay-wired".

Am I correct in thinking, that adding a tach will improve performance? Like less dither, quieter/cooler standby, quicker settling, and faster response?

THe tachometer will only tell you the speed the spindle it is hooked to is turning. YOU will still have to select the correct speed - it will not magically fix poor speed selections - it should enable you to home in on a good speed via some experiemtation.

Red lion make sounters and hall effect targets that can be configured to work as tachometers.

I was not asking about a tachometer for indicating/controlling spindle speed.

I'm asking if there is a way(*) of adding analog tachometer feedback to the PID control loop of the 320 servo amp.

Its my experience that there can be closed loop servo performance improvements when analog tachometer feedback is used inside of the position control loop.

PS: (*) of course there is a way, but is it practical with the particular circuit design and has anyone done this, was it successful, and how significant was the performance improvements if any?

    Comments Anybody?

Has anyone put velocity (D.C. tachometer) feedback on a Gecko 320 position servo drive.

I'm wondering what would be / is / was the closed loop performance gains, and was it worth the trouble?

    Any comments?

Anyone with any comments about this?..... I'd like to add tach feedback to a 320 for a particular application I have.
