Hi guys,
I have no special skills in metal surface/finishing, but I would like to know if anyone here has heard of this "lost art" of treatment?
I'm talking about the oil-mirror-look of aluminium.
As I've understood from various other threads, mainly discussing the paintball-marker below, the technique involves extreme buffing by hand and high voltage treatment afterwards. (chrome as well someone said)
They said the very structure in the aluminium changes to make the look, hence it is not like anodizing or any kind of coating.

We were told that this is expensive and difficult. Not many left in the industry do this, and the few ones that does charge 1k-2k pr marker.

Is this true, is it really that hard? Or could a layman learn to do it by "trial and error" on some pieces at home, or is it simply not worth the effort ?
Maybe there are some books that come by the topic as well?

Would be fun to know, even though it might be extremely difficult and expensive.
