    After market oiler

I bought one of these oilers from ebay to oil the Z ways and ballscrew, it works but the oil leaks out due to the orings not being sized correctly, so I made a mandrel for a larger oring, to use in the lathe, then cut the oring down with a sharp cutter by trial and error until it had a medium resistance when installed, so far it works fine.

Maybe a bit off the wall but it works..

    Re: After market oiler

I am (was) running an ebay oiler on my Tormach KMB1 mill. I tested the original oiler (which still works) to determine exactly how much oil it dispensed each time it was activated. Then I programmed the new oiler to dispense the same amount of oil on the same time interval. Works/ed just fine.

The electro mechanical clockwork trigger for the air operated oiler failed, so I just slapped on the programmable ebay oiler because I already had it on hand. They seem to work just fine. The Tormach automatic oiler seems to just be another variant of the same thing. I have them on all three of my Speedmasters as well.

Oh, Okay. All my CNC machines have automatic oilers. I do have a manual oiler on my knee mill and my surface grinder, but they came that way.

I'd like to get a manual one to replace the broken one on my surface grinder.

Do you have a link, or brand name Mike?

This is one thats similar Terry, I did this a couple years ago and I dont have a link to that particular one.
It does work well to keep the Z oiled, I still check it often though, and this saves quite a bit on oil as well, I wasted a lot pumping the original one several times to get oil to the Z.

I mounted mine on the left side of the column, and run it thru a small 4MM check valve to prevent backflow if there is any.

Sounds like a good addition, for not much money. These days I use my 1100 seldom enough that I always manually apply some oil to the z before using it. Might need to order a second one.
