This fireplace clearly having been constructed from several pieces of hand carved marble, can anybody confirm if such grand designs could be made from a single block of marble please ?

I suppose it's possible, but there was a reason the original makers did it the way they did. Just handling, shipping and installing such an extended piece of fragile stone would be a big nightmare. What would be the point?
Good luck with that. Better make a few while you're at it, to allow for breakage in transit.
I imagine the failure rate working with a metal like aluminium, compared to natural rock comprised of minerals like marble, is a lot less and so it does make sense, but what techniques can be used to bring that probability to alignment ?
Perhaps slower passes ?
I think it can be done from a solid block, but it will cost you a fortune.
I also asked this question when I was renovating my house. I knew they can do it, but the upfront cost bites for a solid block of marble and to turn it into a fireplace. So, if you are ready to pay it's up to you!Gladly, marble is no longer just a luxury item. Nowadays, there are plenty of artificial alternatives that are just as durable and elegant as real marble. So, when I've been renovating my home, I must say the appeal of marble floors and a marble fireplace is tough to ignore. While exploring my options, I discovered an artificial marble manufacturer and decided to give it a try. Basically, they've played a crucial role in helping me realize my vision without hitting my budget hard and sacrificing the quality.
