    Milling with tabs remaining

    Hi guys.

Just wondering how to leave 4 tabs for example on all 4 sides of a square or rectangular profile? Tabs being 5mm wide.
I'm trying to cut out the center of the square without it moving around while cutting right through. So the tabs will be the only bits holding the center in place
I'm using slot mill in 2D on Mastercam 2017.

you cannot do tabs while using the slot mill option. if you use contour the is a actual option for tabs in the operation tree.

Thank you. Thats a good point.
The thing about contour mill (And this is probably a setting issue) is when I have used it, it wants to cut 0.1mm at a time which makes the program super unnecessarily long. This is probably a setting issue I'm over looking though????

What is your contour type set to under cut parameters? Set it to 2D and make sure Depth Cuts is off, that should make a single pass at depth.

Mastercam 2017 allows you to easily create tabs for square or rectangular profiles using the "Dynamic Milling" toolpath. Here's how:

Start by drawing your square or rectangular profile in Mastercam.

Navigate to the "Toolpaths" tab and select "Dynamic Milling."

To choose your profile within Dynamic Milling, open the "Boundary" menu and click either "Chain" or "Select".

To create a dynamic milling pattern, open the "Linking" menu and set both "Start" and "End" distances to zero.

To enable dynamic milling on Windows, select "Tabs" in the dropdown menu and set its value to four.

Set the "Tab Width" to 5mm and the desired length in inches.

Set the "Tab Placement" to "Automatic" or manually select tab positions on each side.

Click "OK" to generate the toolpath.

Create a toolpath that leaves four tabs on all four sides of the square or rectangular profile, each 5mm wide. When cutting out the center of the profile, these tabs will hold it in place while allowing for easy removal once milling is complete.
