    C11G BOB and KBIC controller

    Hello,

I'm finally getting around to installing a C11G board I bought a little while back. I do have one question. I have a KBIC DC controller that I'm also hooking up at the same time. I believe I have that hooked up correctly but I was wondering if I should use one of the on board relays to turn the power to the spindle on and off or if just using the speed control feature of the C11G combined with the KBIC controller is enough. I would prefer not to do that if it wasn't required as I would like one relay to control compressed air and the other a vacuum.

    Thanks,
    Al

    Al,

What you want to do will work and I have seen users do that, but I do not recommend it for safety reasons.

    You got several options:

    1. You could use the solid state relay to control the AC current before it is rectified and fed into the speed controller.

    2. Get an additional relay for this. Here you got some options:

    Arturo,

Thanks for the prompt reply. That's kind of what I thought. I'll try and get by with just one relay for air/vacuum, I may have to use the solid state relay to control a larger relay as the KBIC controller is rated at 9 amps input and your solid state relay is 8 amps. I'm trying to set this up as a 4 axis machine so don't have any free output pins without adding a second parallel port.

    Thanks,
    Al

    Al,

Why don’t you use the solid state relay for the vacuum and the electromechanical relay for the speed controller?

    Thanks,
