I found this photo of a gorgeous lathe in www.cnccookbook.com
The caption under the photo says that the surfaces are hand scraped. Does anyone know how I can achieve a finish like this on my own lathe restoration? Specifically, I'm talking about the finish on the ways.

I saw your hall of fame shop on the same site, along with that one shot oiler on your Bridgeport, which apparently, has also been hand scraped.
That is one beautiful shop!
Anyway, I did the search and there is a wealth of info out there. I might even order a DVD on scraping. I think my 60 year old Atlas lathe deserves a proper comeback. Then I'll look around for that Monarch 10 EE.

I had lots of problems with my scraping due to poor quality cast iron on a cheap Chinese mill. If you are doing restoration work you will have no such problems.

The DVD and a good scraper is the way to go.

I believe a lady name Paula owns and restored that lathe. I know for the paint she said she used Rustoleum and a fine hair brush.

then she's never used it since the paint job that stuff does not stand up.
Beautifull job on the lathe, I do wonder it its used though, a wood bench and in prestine condition?

1 that's not paula's lthe.

That scraping looks like it had a very strong cosmetical reason or it must be one of them super rarity collector item lathes wich i happen to be forgotten it's manufacturers name(and thats rare) with scraping ALL over the place as if the guys had no better jobs to attend to
