I bought a used machine an it's leaking at the back of the spindle when I run the through coolant. I was advised it's most likely this part that fails because of some reason - o-rings, scratch on the ceramics because of chips etc

I spoke with a technician and he came opened the back of the spindle and the rotary joint looked ok. We only changed an o-ring that's in the groove of the other part (not the LH threaded one) and the strange thing is that it seems like it's leaking with toolhlders that have bigger coolant holes and if I out a solid carbide drill and run the through coolant it's not

smaller hole means higher pressure. The design philosophy is that the pressure delivers sealing. Check the parts where sealing increases with pressure.
The likely reason can be aold filters at coolant tank - coolant contains some hard particles which scratched the seal surface.

Do you think it could be the seal that sits in the groove or the other one on the LH bolt?

i encountered a similar thing a few years ago : the leakage was between pulstud and toolholder, thus the coolant, once inside the toolholer, would go up, between pulstud thread and toolholder thread; to check this, use a blind pulstud, or a normal one, and remove the toolholder, looking for coolant drop on the top ... is tricky, but not impossible

is a place to look; we swithced to pulstuds with orings / kindly

Seals are rubber, I replaced only the one in the groove on the other part, not the LH bolt because with the mechanic we both decided we'd rather think it over as it was requiring more disassemble.. or we were wrong..?

Hi Deadlykitten, thanks for joining the discussion.
Are you referring to the pull studs of the toolhlders or other? This Multus machine has HSK 63

take the very front cover of the spindle, check if there is collant. Should be dry and shiny.
or, take the side cover of he spindle, but you need to go from "inside" - to remove samurai.
