Hello. I have 4140 half hard molds. They exhibit too much wear, likely from inexperienced operators.
Has anyone ever used plasma nitriding to give a good hard skin to this, or any steel?
Warping of course is my big concern.

hy i did not used nitring, but chroming
also, wear on some big hard parts, was fixed with additive metalization, then refreshing the surface / kindly

Thanks a lot Deadly, I make molds but only with rotary tooling, not much EDM.
Therefore, I can't work with totally hard metal, like Rockwell 55 C.
I would like to use 4140 hardened to 32 HRC and treat the surface.
Has anyone needed this? Obviously the surface treatment would be done after almost all the machining is done, except for polishing.
Also obviously, warpage is really a dealbreaker.
Any mold makers out there??
Thanks,
Nelson
