I've been trolling around here for a while and have finaly decided to start building my first machine. I have borrowed a few ideas from other machines and have a few tweaks that I plan to implement as well, but I have acouple of questions that I searched for and need some advice.

If I were to use an X axis bearing design like Joes first machine (I think). What is the probabilty of the gantry lifting from the rails when the tool plunges into the work? I'll mainly be cutting foam and balsa. For my first machine this bearing design would be much easier and faster, but the Jgro design looks more rigid.

Secondly, would the Zylotex controler package be a good choice for a first build? I have limited electronics experience but can use a DVOM, soldering iron and basic electronic test equipment.

Building the machine itself is of no concern to me, but the electronics end of it is a little intimidating.

Thanks for any advice.
