To wheel or not to wheel ? That is the question.

First of all, I apologize for the bad pun.

However I am trying to have some feedback from users of (Wilson) wheel tools. We do have some relatively big holes to do on (basically) galvanized steel sheet metal (0.9 mm to 1.6 mm range thickness).

So far we have being using plasma cut for this operation but now we have bought a Vipros Amada punching machine and we would like to move these operations to this machine. I know we can nibble these kind of holes but from seing the video (https://wilsontool.com/en-us/resourc...on-wheel-video) these tools look promising.

One local guy advised me not to go this way and use nibbling.

So, what can anyone using these kind of tools (particularly the rollling shear tool) tell us ? Is it as simple as the video implies ? Are they easy to grind ?

I am aware these tools are not cheap but I have not asked for a quotation so far. Our quantities are small so that in itself may not justify buying such a tool but it there are practical considerations that would help taking a decission beforehand.

I have not tried the shear wheel tool but I have tried the rolling offset and the rolling rib tool. Straight lines are easy to program and the tools work very well. Radius paths are little more complicated. How old is the Vipros?

2006. But with relatively low usage. There have been some issues but mechanically it seems still quite rugged.

Why are you asking ? Do the servos, etc get overload work with these tools ?

If it was older than 1999, you might've needed to upgrade the controller. That's all. I have not noticed the servos being overloaded.
