    Question Help with Heidenhain code/cycles

    Hello to Everybody,

I have seen several post regarding Heidenhain controllers and thought to ask…

I’m having an issue trying to create a code in my MAHO MH-C 700 which has a Heidenhain TNC 310 controller. Basically, I think that the already made cycles of the controller do not support cuts like this… I’m trying to make a larger pocket inside a hole but without drilling through the part, attached a rough sketch of it.

The only close enough cycle I could find was “204 – Counterbore back” which does not seem to give me enough options for all the dimensions needed.

Anyone has an idea how to approach something like that?

Please note that my spindle axis is “Y” but if it confusing enough I can change that later.

    Kind Regards

    WHICH SOFTWARE DO YOU USE?

IN POWERMILL(2010-2024) YOU CAN USE "UNDERCUT" EASYLY TO MACHINE UNDERCUTS LIKE THIS.

    Your cycles are:-
Clear a 30dia pocket to 7.5 deep with an endmill.
Contour a 37dia circle at 7.5 deep with a 3/4" woodruff cutter that is 4.5 wide max. If thinner, you do do another circle a little higher that achieves the 4.5 dimension.

A back counterbore... the tool may need to have a thru hole to work.

I’m using a little bit of Fusion 360, but don’t have a dedicated post-processor for the controller due to the fact that this a retrofitted machine with switches axis between Y and Z.
Can you post a produced code for Heidenhain from powermill for these kind of cuts? just to check it out whether it will be working?

This is exactly what I was trying (by air-cutting) but using the ready-made contours it seems that I can’t control the point where the tool enters the hole and the point that the tool exits the hole, thus making it almost certain that the tool will hit the “lip” of the hole while exiting...

Maybe to re-phrase my query, is there a command (beside trying just to make circles on specified points) in Heidenhain that controls entry and exit points of tools on contours?

Not every toolpath is covered by a cycle...
I would envisage a woodruff cutter path would be something like:-
    L X0Y0 FMAX
    L Z3. FMAX
    L Z-7.5 F2000.
    L X15. YO RL F100.
    C X15. Y0. RL
    CC X0 Y0
    L X0 Y0 R0
    L Z3. FMAX

I may be a little rusty around defining the full arc
... so forgive me if it has an error.
This depends on hole exists, and tools are set correctly
