Hey , new here, great forum. Our Machining cell is in the market for a 15-20"swing lathe. Is the Haas SL 20 worth it. I had great performance w/ Haas VM's. tHANKS

I love mine. It is the second Haas lathe I have owned. Besides regular maintenence they havent needed much, and I am not easy on the TL-15. Regularly doing steel castings.
We have a SL-20, bought new in July 06, nothing but problems.
My personal opinion is that it is definately the wrong machine if you plan on doing production (even aluminum). Thats just my opinion.
Based on my experience with one HL1, one HL1 Big Bore, two SL10, one GT20, two TL1 and a TL2 I would go for the SL20 if I needed an extra one that size. My machines are in use 60% of the time or more and maintenance has been minimal. Except for a broken X-slide spring the Big Bore has not needed anything for nearly six years and this machine is used every day.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.
i love hass lathes we have 2 SL20 and planning purchase new 3 HL1..only problems i encountered belt squeakin coolant oil build up at the top ventilation.haas tech visits our shop every 6 months for maintenance
I just purchased a 2007 sl-20 two weeks ago. I have been running the machine and love it so far. What kind of problems have occured with your your 20's.
we have our SL-20 since march and it runs fine. The software is very basic even for a HAAS machine. (we also have 2 mills). The live tooling is fine for milling flats and simple jobs.
