Breakout board for machine that uses HPGL

    Hi!

I want to make a connection for an old CNC machine (Diadrive 2000) to connect its parallel port to a computer using the USB. I want to purchase a breakout board for the signal from the parallel port cable. The machine seems to only run on HPGL and most of the breakout boards I see online only mention that they support G-Code. Would they still work?

    Thanks for any reply!

I don’t think it would work directly.

I found "Diadrive 2000" using google, seems to be a German company. Mutronic / CNC drilling, milling and engraving machines
They don't mention anything about their hardware. I guess that the parallel directly drives the machine, the same way Mach3 and LinuxCNC do. To be sure, you have to open the controller box and check what is inside the box.

If I am right, you could use an dedicated (designed for CNC controll) USB to parallel adapter.
This thread covers the same question https://www.cnczone.com/forums/contr...64544-cnc.html, have a look at it.
