Hello, we have a client who transfers data from an old CNC with RS232 to a computer via a serial cable. They are asking us for a way to reach the CNC machine remotely from other computers. We have installed a MOXA NPort 5150 and configured it with the same serial settings as the CNC machine. I tried to open it with Windows Explorer using the IP address, but it shows nothing.

How can I transfer the data between a PC and CNC machine? Do I need to install any other tools to achieve this?

...I think the RealCom Mode is what you need to use. Then, each PC install a RealCom Port with NPort Admin program IF, I remember correctly.

Do I also need any software to be able to read and write file from the CNC fanuc?

Use Program transfer tool from Fanuc for file transfer,is a drag and drop software ,it is cheap ,around 20 euro and is the easy and safe way to transfer files between CNC nad PC

I’m using COMMUNICATION SOFTWARE FOR FANUC because it is more powerful and also because it can be used with serial communication RS232.
It is specially designed for FANUC CNC though it can be used also with other CNC.
It has several built-in help menus that show you how to use it with your CNC.
