I am looking for help in troubleshooting and repairing a malfunctioning Leadshine 3ND883 3-phase stepper motor drive. The symptoms were that the drive would display a red alarm LED within a minute or so of running. No obvious burn marks are apparent on the circuit board or on the Phoenix-style power connectors.

I have an electrical background, but I am not very experienced with board level troubleshooting and repair. I have a multimeter, but not an oscilloscope or benchtop power supply. I can solder but have not done any SMT work before. I've been thinking of getting an oscilloscope and benchtop power supply for awhile now, and this drive repair might finally provide a reason.
Background: A local high school recently had a Z-axis stepper motor drive fail on their Tormach 24R CNC router. The problem was resolved when they ordered and installed a new 3-phase stepper drive (Tormach 32000 / Leadshine 3ND883).
