hi,

While pocket milling aluminum I am getting chips around the pockets.

it's only when I re-machine the pocket - you can say it is a re-work.

The machine is 4 4-axis Makino s56 with a rotary head. Tool used 1mm four flute carbide endmill with 20000rpm and feeds are variable (5000-6000). No issues when machining new pockets with the same feed and speed.

Is the feed and speed that's causing me these issues or it has something to do with the backlash in the rotary head?

Note- Chip load is much less when re-machining. Backlash was corrected.

please see the attached images of the chips/step and advise if anyone has any views on the above.

thanks!!
