Buying my first CNC machine - Advice needed

    Hey,

I'm looking for help with evaluating the conditions of this Emcoturn 140. It has some rust and comes with no tools, except for the mounted chuck. No manuals/spec sheets included, but the owner has I/O maps. I don't have the opportunity to inspect the machine in person, but I have some pictures and a video.

Runout test can be seen at 3:10

Here is a video link of it running:

    1) Does the spindle or bearings sound okay?

    2) Is rust on the spindle/spindle nose salvageable? It has a D1-D4 camlock system, and I don't know if the rust has creeped inside of the locking holes or not. Would this be repairable if that were the case, or would I have to replace the spindle?

    3) What is a good price for a CNC-lathe in this condition?

Are there other factors I should consider? I know that the proprietary tools/fixtures are rare and expensive, but the owner told me that is has a D1-D4 spindle nose. So the plan is to make an adapter plate and use 5C collet chuck(since I'll only be working with cylindrical workpieces). I am also considering removing the turret, and make a gang tool setup (and maybe add an Y-Axis).

All comments and suggestions are appreciated

The 6 photos did not transfer from IndustryArena properly, so 5 are attached here:

    Extra info:

The machine is retrofitted to run on Linuxcnc.

Here is a video of runout test on spindle:

I also attached some additional pictures showing the condition of the ballscrews.

As for LinuxCNC G7x is not safe to use at the moment (early 2024), and probably not on the retrofit with an older version.
