As a mad scientist myself, and only recently realised that I can build my own CNC ROUTER, it is really exciting.
In collecting parts and cruising this site I see that both the auction and classified sections have great potential yet are underused. As a wood-worker, metal worker, mechanic there are sometimes little shortcuts help and save time.
This being said, I see the g-codes as mini programs no different than little shareware and wood patters which are bought and shared enveryday online. Seeing the creations in the picture sections of this site and elsewhere I'd propose sharing the design g-codes or selling them to each other for $5 to $20 so others can just copy into Mach 3 and create, improve or use.
I saw an engraving of Christ the other day I'd be willing to pay $100 for the script for my own use. Same for other designs seen on here.
Anyone else thought the same thing? I looked for samples or sellers of G-code online but there isn't any. There are some wizards in Mach 3 but need to expand catalog for hobbiest. Any input appreciated.

Hi! The problem with gcode is that it is often setup for a specific machine for a specific feedrate, cutter diameter, etc. Just look into getting a good CAM program to generate all the gcode you could ever desire. The Vectric software suite (www.vectric.com) did all that I needed and more.

You can buy 3D models here and they give the CAM software away for free to create the g-code.

If for simple discussion I wanted to borrow a creation to make on my own CNC ROUTER that was made by another member on this forum such as a bearing block or like design.

If I knew these settings similar to a recipe I could cook similar item on my machine. Upon looking at the "vectorart3d" program isn't that what they are doing? Selling you 3d designs and translating or converting it to script your CNC software understands?

Just trying to grasp the limits and limitations on these. I appreciate your input.

Just seems terrible not to share... Design and creations. Kinda like you build perfect frame for Hobby CNC Router you could sell your buddies the Coding, Directions and they could just Cut and Mill it out of a sheet of 1/2 inch aluminum, plywood etc.

VectorArt uses a custom version of Vectrics Cut3D that only works with their models. They actually give you the software when you purchase the model. The software uses different post processors that tailor the g-code to each machine controller. Things like feedrate and cutter diameter are things that you set for each individual part, and can vary a lot from part to part, even on a single machine.

Provided you have your own CAM software, it's easier to share drawings or models than actual g-code.

Is it possible to create a part in Vcarve Trial, save that file to your hard drive, then send that file to someone that owns Vcarve, let them create the g-code, maybe pay them a small fee.

I know a lot of folks can't afford the $600 for Vcarve.

This would allow anyone to create a file that is specific to the machine/tool they have.

I'm not sure about the Vcarve license. I don't think it would take away from Vectrics business, it might actually boost sales, If a bunch of folks thought they might be able to pay for the software from sourcing g-code alone.

Just a thought.

Maybe. But I can save a file in VCarve Wizard 2.0 Demo and open it in VCarve Pro 4.6 Registered. I haven't tried the newer demos because, well, I bought the software.

But then I also routed three name plaques of my own design with code from the 2.0 Demo. But it was a huge lot of work. And I didn't hack the software, just exploited it a little. And I'm not telling how I did it either because, well, I bought the software.

And I've only routed one name plaque since I bought it months and months ago. And that was the fourth "exploit" I had finished but never got around to routing. I've gotta finish that router 'cause the minimill is, well, mini.
