    Y axis thread milling

    would it be possible to thread mill a hole in the side of a diameter with a Y axis CNC lathe.

    I don't see why it cant, the draw back is how big the thread hole is. since the Y on CNC lathe lay on a web and if hole too big then machine will alarm overtravel.
    The best way to learn is trial error.

    Don't know if I understand the application, but I think you are asking about milling a thread on the radial side of a part, not an end face.

    We do this radial type of hole, and it is a helical command that uses X,Y,and Z commands to generate the thread
