I am to learn how to program/operate an Allen-Bradley 8600MC which uses CMS wintools, I think, and some other CAM program I have not seen discussed here (Router 9.1?). I am then to teach the business owner to do the same.

A CMS-trained technician put it together, but left for greener pa$sture$ before finishing. The controller - a 9 foot tall cabinet - seems to still have a few electrical problems, but the owner has seen the machine run.

The computer he has for CAM is an eMachine boasting a 633MHz Celeron and a board-maximum 256MB. It's running Windows ME. Needless to say, I'm a little concerned.

I'm a Windows guru, a Mac Jedi, and a punched-cards programming dinosaur. I worked in manufacturing for over 20 years ( industrial textiles ).

I've never done this before.

All the information on G code is very helpful ( it's gonna save my ... ) but can anyone help me with the rest?

OK, is it that the equipment is actually that unusual, or have I said the wrong thing?

Please, say something?
