Hi,
I've been working on this electronic project and I created a front panel using Front Panel Express.
Their work is great, I really like the result.



My measurements are spot on when it comes to lining up the buttons to the holes. But it seems the panel's holes are exactly the same size as the buttons which go in them. So I can't fit the buttons into the holes unless I seriously file out the holes.

I think I just need to enlarge the hole dimensions and resubmit the job, but I'm not sure how much larger to make them.

Any recommendations?

Measure it!

Get some calipers and see how big your switches are. Make the holes .005-.010 bigger.

They are exactly .500 and my holes are exactly .500 as well.

If the buttons are secured by a threaded post I would open them up .010-.015. If they are pop in and retained by spring tabs, I would suggest filing to fit.

The spring tab mounted switch manufacturer's recommended dimensions usually are a good starting point but I have found that they are usually a little too sloppy for my taste. You don't want the fit too tight as if may interfere with the operation of the switch or button.

Looking at your top plate, the corner radiuses are larger than the corners of the buttons. When you file the openings, you will need to pay attention to these areas. The same size openings as the buttons issue isn't that bad. Just a little will go a long wayonce your corners are fixed.

What's with the "Kill" button? Sounds kinda dangerous....

That's a good looking panel, BTW.

Kill bypasses the whole device. Removes it from the chain. Kills it.
Its a midi controlled audio matrix switch.
