WTF Have I done wrong now?

I have my 203's working on 2 axis but it does something very strange on the Z. It will ocilate (sp?) back and forth, and when press the jog button for CW it jumps a little then goes, when I jog it CCW it still goes CW, but in a jumpy fashion. If i tap the jog button, it will jump forward then reverse itself. Is this a MACH setup issue or a wiring issue? I have it wired in series.

    Thanks - Bryan

Does the Z DRO act correctly? I'm assuming it does, and if so, it's probably a wiring issue. Do you maybe have the step and direction signals backwards?

the DRO works correctly. The step and dir signals are correct. I believe it did work correctly for a few minutes until i started messing around with the settings in mach and changed the resistor. I put the resistor back to what it was and tried to get the settings back to where they were, but now it is flaky.

    Bryan,

I've had similar problems with 203's and mach3, growing pains, and here are some of the things I have done to cause them...

Today, X axis only would go in the -x direction when pressing the +X and -X jog. Turned out to be the parallel cable was loose.

Also, I have went in and changed the active step and dir trying to figure things out, fogetting to put them back to the proper settings.

Changed the accel in motor turning or set the velocity to fast.

One thing I have found to help debug 1st, I change the settings in Ports and Pins swapping the axis that dosn't work with one that does. Does it follow the axis or the motor?

I have connectors from my 203's to my motors so I can change the cables This is what I did today. (but if you have something that hurt the motor you could damage the new one although as I have screwed up the wiring and not hurt either the 203's or the motors...EE not a tech)

    Just a couple of suggestions,
    Good Luck,
    Bob
