    Flood coolant on steroids

I wonder if anyone has researched installing: "Through the tool coolant" on your CNC machine?

I'd like to know what the design considerations are?
What are some options for the rotating seal component?
    Pressure limits?
    Drawbar modifications?

I think I'll break out the CNC machine schematics...
Fadal VMC with 15k spindle. Fadal does not offer this as an option for their 15k machine, only their 10k spindle. Their seal does not work that well so no wonder it does not work for them on the 15k...

Other CNC builders and high pressure coolant systems do make high RPM units.

    I wonder...

To be worthwhile, thru tool coolant needs to have several hundred psi available to be able to blast chips out of holes, etc where the chips cause the most problems. Gets out of the range of your basic high clearance centrifugal pump rather quickly. The tight pump clearances require filtering similar to what's necessary in high end surface or cylindrical grinding, otherwise the fines will destroy the pump in short order. Obviously a totally enclosed machine is necessary. When you look at the upfront costs of TTC, including the sealed collets that are 2 to 3 times the cost of standard collets, and the associated maintenance costs of the system itself, the whole system seems to be a thing that would be considerable only if the buyer has a well defined need for it.

I read something several months ago about a gun-drilling system that forces coolant down the periphery of the drill and evacuates chips back up the center of the hollow tool. I can imagine that would be a rather complicated process, to say the least

Here is the new coolant manifold we fabricated:
This works fine with the stock 40 psi pump that came with the machine.
It works much better with the new 150 psi pump we have on the machine now.
This design surrounds the tool as much as possible as you can see.
These high pressure nozzles cannot be moved by stringy chips so they stay put...

http://www.deublin.net/index.htm Scott have you looked at the rotary couplings from deublin
they have several for coolant through spindle aplications.

if you only want through tool coolant far applications like deep drilling you should look at KBC tools they have both tools and tool holders that just use inducer collars and look like you could use them with any pump that will give you some reasonable presure
