    Small shop 3 machines

Ok guys this question is a bit odd but I need your input.
My Tormach, 9x49 Enco knee mill and 14x40 lathe is
in a fairly big shop that is not climate controlled so
when the humidity goes up ever thing sweets’ bad.
I’m constaly spraying my machines with WD40 to keep them from rusting.

So I built a 18x20 shop that’s insulated and climate
    controlled.

My question is should I put my machines with there backs to the wall and have a bench in the middle of
the shop or should put there backs facing the middle
and a bench on the wall?

    Chris

All three of my machines are up against a wall. They are small machines though. I have a router that is about 3' by 4' stuck in the corner. Then I have a small mill in the middle. Then a 7/12 lathe and at the end of that is my bench longways into the corner.
    It's only a 16' wall.

One of the woodworking sites has a shop layout thingy that might help you with this. I move tools around all the time in the shop, but those were woodworking tools and on wheels. While I have wheels on the lathe and the router, I have them sitting on timbers now. Pretty solid like that.
    Ah. I found it.
    It was Grizzly.

    Part of my shop layout

Hey, TT350...for your shop, it's anything that floats your boat.

Here's part of my layout. This is the east building in our little "compound". Until very recently (2 weeks ago), our toolroom was restricted to the room in the lower left. However, we got our new Tormach (WooHoo!) and the lathe got bumped up to the small molding area at the upper left. The area towards the center top is the product development lab (mostly electronics). At the upper right is our engineering area. The big room at the lower center and right is for woodworking, restoring and storing antique tractors and general garage stuff. I hope to fill that with more cnc's and boot the woodworking/tractors/garage out to a third building.

More to your point, I've always preferred the machines around the outside and workbenches in the center for a machine area.

    Have fun designing your shop.

Behind the machine is a bad idea.
