    Started build on CNC Mill. Lots of pics, sorry.

    Hey folks, I have been chomping at the bit to get started on my big CNC router and finnaly couln't take it anymore. While I can't start on it yet, I broke down and just started cutting stuff up and will see where it goes. I know it's not the best way to do things, but damnit I'm tired of staring at a stupid computer modeling the big machine.

    So at this point I think we are going for a 48"X12"x12" 3 axis set up.

    I have no drawings, no plans, This is totally on the fly, by the seat of our pants. Just for fun of it. No clue what accuracy we are going for, I'm not, I will get what I get.

    #1 rule at cnczone, never, ever say sorry for posting pictures. That looks like it will be a stout router!! Good luck.

    Mill

    Well I would definitly call this more of a Mill then a router. looking at useing either a 5 HP 3P 3450RPM C Face or a 7.5 HP 3P base mount 3600 RPM. Am talking to Minark about a VFD for this machine. Either way makes for a WAY beefy powerhouse! I kinda messed up my first idea, made the X axis to mount solid for Y axis to slide on it. That's what I get for being so tired and "gun ho" about getting going. The X axis weighs 82.96 lbs! Yeah would be hard on bearings to make it work. What do you think about me flipping X over and useing it like I have it but building Y underneith like it should be. X is 48" could Y be beefy enough to hold 82 lbs out at 3/4 feet hangin off of one side. I also planned on CNCing this machine. I will be useing 2 630oz motors and one 1280oz these are motors I have coming for the big router. at these weights, I just donno if it will all work.

    Thoughts?

    Depending on what screws you plan on using, 600oz motors can deliver a lot of force. About 350 lbs of holding force with the standard 5/8 ballscrews most people use. Just remember that torque drops off as rpm's increase, quite rapidly for some motors.
