so hey, dunno if you guys have seen this yet, but Autodesk recently posted a 3d-to-flatpack software to help generate 2d slices from 3d models. The models it produces look a lot like the d-torso models.
it's here:
Autodesk 123D - Personal Fabrication, 3D Printing, and Making Products and Services
The video is amazing. I don't have a mac, or ready access to one, and I don't see myself buying one just to play with this... but I wonder if one the folks here who does have a mac might want to share his opinion?
There is also an instructables desk-lamp project here:
The finished lamp
it's made out of cardboard, but no reason you couldn't apply this technique to cut any other sheet goods...
somebody with a mac, please please please give this a shot and post your results to the forum here...
if you don't have access to a good 3d model, pick one online like this:
Elephant India Africa animal, (.3ds) 3D Studio Max, Life Forms free software download
or something like this:
Star Trek Mesh Download
and see if you can make it work....!
i think someone already create this post in the past
Anybody thinking of hosting files on Megaupload will be out of luck, It's be taken offline by federal authorities for copyright infringements.

If you upload the designs to here zipped they should be fine one at a time, Megaupload was really only useful for large collections of files like Fluery posted a couple of times..
And, in a bit of related but useless information. I didn't realise that Megaupload was owned by a guy here in New Zealand.. Crazy stuff.
Cheers, Chris H.
